Who had the best argument...

The group with the best argument was the Foreign Auto Manufacturers. They wanted to get rid of the domestic content rules. They argued that the without the tariffs Americans get the best cars at the cheapest price, while helping the enviroment. While I would personally tend to support consumer choice and a free market economy anyway, I think the FAM did a good job arguing their position. I thought they were very convincing when they pointed out that the majority of cars are still made in the U.S. despite being owned by foreign companies, so the United States isn't really losing jobs in the free market. I think they also made a better argument for helping the enviroment. They argued that the countries making cars overseas have better fuel emission standards that make their cars more eco-friendly and fuel efficient. Most of these countries also are members of the Kyoto protocal as well.

Foreign car companies also have the reputation of making better cars and at a better price. Consumers shouldn't have to choose between having to own a good car or keeping jobs in the U.S. Instead, American car companies should adapt to the market and become more competitive by making more fuel efficient cars. Because the FAM could prove that Americans aren't losing jobs and that the cars made overseas are better, cheaper, and more enviromentally clean they made me think that the best thing for everyone is to eliminate the tariffs.
